Common Enchantments

At the river

The new camera, a Canon SX60, arrived yesterday so I took it for a test run today.   It takes some getting used to as it is has an LCD screen for composing photos or the eye viewfinder but that is not true to the colors or the framing as the screen is. Plus it is live view so every time I breath the composition moves.   I did have the monopod which helps some; next time with be the tripod.    So I took many, many  photos that were not focused and many attempts at zooming in close which about 600mm digitally that were just big blurs.   Much much closer than my longest lens, a 300mm when I finally got it right.    But I think I will be liking this for use when hiking as it is so lightweight; I can get really close for macro and zoom in for far off.

These egrets were about 200 - 300 yards (185 meters) (per the hunter who is used to looking at animals through his rangefinder and is pretty good at guestimating) so I am happy that I could get this close and the lens was not out all the way because I could not get both birds and their reflections when it was.   This photo is straight out of the camera.

I know I will be saying a few nasty  words when it won't do what I want.  I already plan to take a walk at the river walk on Tuesday with a friend so that I can play with it more.   There should be turtles and birds along the river.    I know I will be mostly deleting for the next few days as I learn this camera.

Now if I could just figure out how to hold the camera still so it won't move every time I take a breath.
