Silly Saturday - A Silly Day to Travel?
Today we drove from Macclesfield to Bath, to visit Son #2. We felt rather silly to have decided to travel on the first Saturday of the school holidays (in some parts of the country anyway) - we were concerned about dire warnings in the newspapers about likely jams on the motorways, and once you're stuck in a motorway jam there's no way of escape! The M5 & M6 have particularly bad reputations. So we consulted the atlas and managed to work out a route using a minimal amount of motorways.
This route took us through Leek & Ashbourne to join part of the M6 Toll (never busy!). We did have to use a few miles of the M42 east of Birmingham but that wasn't bad. Then we turned off down past Alcester and through Stow-on-the-Wold, approaching Bath on the A46. These roads were amazingly quiet - was everyone in the country on the motorways? Anyway it was a lovely scenic drive and took only a bit longer than a straightforward motorway journey would have done.
Our son's flat isn't big enough for visitors to stay: usually when we've stayed in Bath we've used a Travelodge but this time we decided to use an airbnb. It's a super, quirky old basement flat, a bit like somewhere in Hobbiton. You can see the bedroom in the photo. It's great - if a little silly!
Thanks as always to admirer for hosting Silly Saturday.
