Crop query

I've been walking through this field for a while now and there is something a little strange I am hoping a blipper might be able to help with. The edges of the field are planted with this rather hairy wheat (left) but the main crop (right) is the traditional kind. There is a distinct line between them. At first I thought it was barley. Any clues folks?
