Knott End

L.S. Lowry spent some time and painted here in the 1950's. In celebration, a statue of him and his companion has been erected in more or less the exact spot he would have painted 'The Lunevale' in 1954. Behind him is the subject of the painting - minus the ferry, and for his later 'Jetty at Knott End'.

The ferry is still going but these days it has the almost constant threat of closure hanging over it.
