Golden Oriole

We were woken by some cat like wailing from the acer tree opposite our bedroom, but unfortunately my camera was downstairs, so I was unable to capture the source of the noise, a Golden Oriole (male).

While this photo is not the sharpest, it does at least prove that these beautiful birds are around. My father thought he saw one several years ago ("a flash of yellow disappearing into the woods"), but had almost dismissed it, having not seen one in the last ten years or so. This is the first time in seventeen years that we have seen one.

Hopefully he'll wake me again one morning, and I'll make sure my camera is in the bedroom!
