A Grand Day Out

Jamie made it to school this morning for a Transition morning with new teachers for next year.  He's really struggled to attend this year with increasing tiredness on top of other problems so this was a big achievement.  It had an up side for me too, a chance to revisit Beeston Common, an SSSI just a few minutes away from school.

A host of natural wonders are found on Beeston Common, wildflowers and butterflies aplenty today.  Skippers and Gatekeepers were the most common today but I also saw Speckled Wood, Common Blue, Small tortoiseshell, Ringlet, Small Copper, Meadow Brown and Large White.  Small Skipper and Small Copper feature above.  Todays main target, Marsh Helleborine (above centre) was found almost immediately, in abundance.  There were also Fragrant Orchids (top right) and Common Spotted Orchids too.  The other flower featured above is Wood Sage (bottom left.)  Two hours passed all to quickly!

Should have been choir tonight but I've got a sore throat :-(
