Day 134: Ken's Crafty Creativity
More artisanal in large
I only bought one thing on my end-to-end adventure with Ken: a lapel pin badge from the gift shop at John o'Groats rather gracelessly memorialising the madness of our mission (see extra). I like lapel pins (I'm currently wearing a ptarmigan in winter plumage), but found the JoG badge's rectangular form and lack of subtlety rather unsatisfactory. "It'll do"...
When we parted company after our 4 day adventure, Ken handed me a little wrapped box, and made me promise to open it only once all of the evening's ward irritations were over... I opened it at about 10:30PM to find this exquisitely crafted badge/brooch showing our end-to-end route through GB. Ken is a dentist, and made this using his training in the manufacture of gold crowns and inlays using lost wax casting, and a generous helping of selfless creativity...
The gift shop pin may not quite do it, but Ken's one ...? What prescience, what talent, and what kindness.
I've now back blipped all 4 days of our adventure:
Day 1: Reaching Land's End
Day 2: Racing the Sunset to JoG
Day 3: Rain Doesn't Stop Play
Day 4: Last Leg(s)
