Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Ythan Mouth

After yesterday's horror fest I thought that today something a little more delicate and pleasant might be a good idea. So, here we have the mouth of the River Ythan at its best.

Back in 1936 James McBey, the renowned etcher and painter, painted this same stretch of sand and water and called it Ythan Mouth.

James McBey was born in the hamlet of Foveran near Newburgh, not far from this scene. Although James McBey spent much of his adult life abroad, he returned many times to the place of his birth and frequently painted the flat landscape of the Ythan basin.
