Sawley Abbey
A trip to Sawley in Lancashire to meet up with dear friends who are here for the weekend staying with her parents. It transpires that the pub I had suggested for lunch was where they had had their wedding reception 38 years ago!
Sawley Abbey is a cistercian monstery founded in January 1147 by William de Percy and colonised by monks from Newminster Abbey in Northumberland. although never particularly wealthy, the abbey survived for almost 400 years until its suppression in 1536.
