Water, water
When we brought the house almost fifteen years ago, town water was promised to us within two years. Arrangements were made to have rights to a neighbour's spring and we thought waiting tow years was not too bad. Many summers have been and gone since, in several of which the spring has dried up and we have become that neighbour who has to give water to our other neighbours.
Over the winter however work went on to install the pipes and last week, someone came around and put in the meters. As with other jobs I've procrastinated over connecting it as I could foresee all sorts of fraught problems. In fact it went like a dream - although digging the hole was quite hard work.
There was a hole in the wall in about the right place already,. It was big enough to insert a larger pipe. I already had the required bits of plumbing to join everything up and it didn't leak a drop when I turned it on for the first time. Not the same story with all my DIY jobs.....
Either way we could now use town water if we chose and so the issues of drought as not as pressing as once they were. That said, probably good to continue to be fairly frugal for all sorts of good environmental issues.
