Traces of Past Empires

Cibeles Palace, Madrid

This wonderful building was originally the Headquarters of the Spanish Postal Service, and was known as the Palace of Communications.

It was built in 1909 by Antonio Palacios, who modernised the appearance of Madrid in the early 20th Century - he designed the early Metro entrances as well.

It is now the Madrid City Hall, and has a wonderful restaurant on the roof with views through the pinnacles and towers of down-town Madrid.
