Teignmouth
Although sunny, it was a little bit more cloudy today; warm in the sun and out of the stiff breeze.
We took the ferry over to Teignmouth and wandered down to the café known as twentysix for coffee. twentysix is based in the area of Teignmouth near French Street named after the last invasion of Britain in 1690 when French troops invaded the town. There is a small memorial garden which is flanked by Italian and Greek restaurants and an Irish pub; a veritable mini Europe.
Lunch was on Lower Beach by the beach huts. These are on the spit that pushes out into the Teign estuary mouth. We sat on the sea side of the huts as the wind was off the river, watched from a distance by the scavenging gulls who luckily were more interested in a couple a little way from us who were obviously more messy eaters. The beach huts are only temporary and every year as the winter approaches they are dismantled and put into storage, only to be resurrected the next spring for the rest of the summer.
Climb back to the chalet this afternoon and a well deserved cup of tea. Then it was down to the club this evening to listen to tonight's jazz offering. Not too bad a sound mixture of Cajun, Blues and a bit of Trad, though they did insist on having the TV off at the back of the room, prima donnas!
I had a very interesting bottled beer - Jeremiah Weed Sour Mash a fruity beer with a taste of bourbon, reminiscent of Southern Comfort, very drinkable and came with an jar shaped glass, whiskey in the jar?
