Indoor rain
I was at the Scottish Learning Festival at the SECC in Glasgow today.
After my keynote I walked round the stands which were alive with people demonstrating, selling, informing and recruiting about all manner of things.
This one, organised by SEPA and Heriot Watt University was particularly interesting. You can see water falling from one of the heads positioned over a model village. The pupils (these ones are from Callander) have to work out the best ways to avoid, or mitigate, flooding.
As a former Environment Minister it was bound to intrigue me - lots of memories of flooding schemes and the disputes those cause. Good design, the use of porous materials for roads and driveways , the planting of gardens and the avoidance of building in the wrong place were and are all issues ( amongst many others).
All were being illustrated and discussed today in this little corner of a big exhibition hall.
