Carnoustie rail station first opened in 1838, and relocated in 1900 to it's location by the signal box. Golf has been played at Carnoustie since the 1830s (the R&A suggests since 1600s). It's Championship Course has featured in the Open several times; the 147th Open will be played there in 2018.
