Big Butterfly Count 2017

I'd have missed knowing about the start of the Big Butterfly Count 2017 if I hadn't seen it on BBC Breakfast this morning. Please take part if you can, it's important research material to compare year on year. They have a very clear website, and now even an app.

My blip had to fit - a rather pretty green veined white with some blossom at Pipe Hill Heathland.

I've had another lovely local day, starting off with a tea with a good friend at Packington Farm Shop. (Shock horror - they've sold up and it will close very soon. This pesky HS2!)

A lecture as part of the Lichfield Festival - Watling Street (Otherwise known as the A5). It was interesting but how could he speak in our area without even a mention of the Staffordshire Hoard.

On my way home I pulled over briefly at Pipe Hill Heathland. It was only watery sunshine but I saw so many moths and butterflies. Whites, Comma, Ringlet, Gatekeeper, Small Skipper, Meadow Brown, Cinnabar moth and Six spot Burnet moth.... to be duly recorded On this, the first day of the count.
