Two Years!!

Blimey, it is two years today that I started as a donor carer. Two years of stabbing people on a daily basis. Two years ago I walked into a a job that was completely new to me....it was a completely unknown world of acronyms and language that was alien to me. A world that I never thought I would master, but now I'm becoming a one to one trainer in it.

The days can be long, I'm on my feet a lot, but I love it. I work with a great team. A team of different personalities, different ages and yet we have each other's backs, we have fun and we do a damn good job. I hear some incredibly sad stories, I hear uplifting stories and I share the feeling of knowing I am part of a process that can make a huge difference to someone's life, to saving a life or maybe giving someone the chance to have one last Christmas with their families. It is amazing how the gift of blood, red gold, a miracle in a bag, can save a life. Only five percent of the population donate blood, yet we all expect it to be there for us if we ever need it. I am proud to be a donor and to be part of the process.

I took some goodies in to work today to celebrate. We had a lovely day and there were some great donors in today.

I decided to take a pic to celebrate when I arrived home. I started off with two new candles, but as I faffed around trying to get the shot I wanted they nearly burnt away to nothing, I just about got what I wanted before they puffed out completely.

So, there you are....two years. And tomorrow I shall celebrate with an extra day this week :))
