The foot of the western head, Knysna
After suffering the horrendous effects of a devastating fire the town of Knysna is very slowly rising from the ashes. Some people are slowly starting to rebuild their houses, but many devastated places remain untouched, so far. What meets the eye, are the ashes, unidentifiable rubble, twisted corrugated iron, burnt out cars, caravans, and other unknown items that once were valuable pieces of a household . . . it was said that 600 households had burnt to ashes - perhaps now that proper stock can be taken, there may even be more . .
The town of Knysna has two rocky heads through which the cold waters of the Indian ocean enter into a large lagoon. The image shows the foot of the western head and what once was a lush green holiday maker's paradise, is now a grim grey scene with the vegetation burnt beyond anything recognizable . . . what sadness.
