Cornwall
This morning we drove to the Lost Gardens of Helegen, which were a lot bigger that we expected. The actual gardens area was fairly small compared to the rest, which was mostly paths through woodland and fields. There was also a nice bit called the Jungle, which had massive gunnera leaves, which looked like enormous rhubarb plants, monkey puzzle trees and some ponds. The ponds were very murky, but near the edges we saw a load of tadpoles bunched up together, and also a few water snails, which looked strange. We ate lunch on a grassy area, and then continued walking around. We found another pond, which has a load of little frogs/toads hopping around at the edge. They didn't seem to be trying to migrate anywhere though. We carried on, and after a particularly strenuous hill me and Mum get ourselves some ice cream. After that we went around the gardens. I didn't find the gardens as enjoyable as I was very hot and there weren't many trees in that area for me to hide under. One of the gardens (the Italian garden) had some information plaques on a wall in a small shaded area, about how the gardens were restored. There was a small rectangular pond with a statue fountain which was cast from the same mold as the original, we also saw a pigeon drinking from the pond, which amused us. We left the Italian garden via a different path and found yet another pond which had several newts in it. I only counted 4, but Dad said there were more than that. It might seem like there were loads of ponds everywhere, but they were the most interesting part.
-Note from FutureAphid, we visited this town after tea to have a look around, but I didn't write the name down anywhere so I have no idea what it was called.
-Note #2, Mum says it was called Mevagissey
