Needs

I wouldn’t say he’s a shadow
of his former self but
many years have passed
since we first joined forces so,
yes, he’s not as playful,
nor as agile, as once he was,
though I can still rely on him

to provide a knee to sit upon,
to fill my food bowl,
empty my litter tray,
and obey my every whim.

He needs me. And, sometimes,
I knead him.
