Standing on the decking hoping for a suitable subject for today's photo, I spotted this comma settling on a leaf in the evening sun.

I haven't seen one in our garden before, but when I looked it up on my trusty butterfly identification website, it told me: 'The favored foodplant in the past was Hops but a decline in village breweries has caused a move towards nettle (usually growing in shaded positions) as the favored foodplant.'


So a good reason (excuse) to leave those nettles at the bottom of the garden alone, at least a bit longer!
