'The game, for the game's sake.'

I understand that this is a slight mistranslation of the Latin motto of Queen's Park Football Club, but it will do for me. Queen's Park, from the south side of Glasgow are one of the most important clubs in world football. (No, I'm not making this up.)

We were founded in 1867, and were the premier Scottish club for the next two decades, winning 10 Scottish Cups, and contesting two (English) FA Cup Finals. We have now been in business for 150 years. But... we are not in 'business,' we are a non-profit membership based club. We are the only club in senior British football to have an  entire playing staff of amateur status. They are joiners, bakers and students, playing the game for the sake of the game.

The advent of crossbars, free kicks, and changing ends at half-time, were all QP innovations. More than that Queen's developed a passing game while others were content to rush and dribble. You could say we invented Brazil. We also built Hampden Park, until 1950, the biggest football stadium in the world, and we are still proud to own it, it and play our home matches there. All football fans love their club, but Queen's Park is unique. I rest my case.
