Currency…………….
………………………Celebration
Fifty years ago today, on 10th July 1967, New Zealand adopted decimal currency.
Pounds, shillings and pence were replaced by dollars and cents. The new coins were in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents. The notes were $1, $2, $5, $10, $20 and $100. A $50 note was introduced in 1981, and in 1990 the $1 and $2 notes were replaced by coins. The
1, 2 and 5 cent coins have been discontinued.
In 1999, polymer (plastic) notes replaced the paper notes - offering new and better security features and in July 2006 we saw the arrival of smaller and lighter 50c, 20c and 10c coins.
Present day, we use 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 coins and $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes.
Once again I send a heartfelt thanks for the many lovely comments, stars and hearts for my previous blip of delicate ‘paper’ lanterns. I apologise for erratic commenting at the moment, but I sprinkle stars and hearts as often as I can.
