Superb Lyrebird

This is not a great photo, but it's definitely a great bird, superb even:)
The lyrebird, though not endangered is very shy, and I'm very lucky to have two visit about the same time every morning.
They zip around the yard like the roadrunner, until Billy realises they're around, when they scramble up into a tree, which is where I shot this one.

The lyrebird is so called because its beautiful tail resembles a lyre when it's fanned out during the mating dance.
Sadly, although it's mating season, I'm not expecting a mating dance outside the kitchen window:)

They are extraordinary mimics.
More here, if you're interested.
