Observation Pod, Sungei Buloh, Singapore

Day 10

Early morning exercise, up before dawn. The park was so busy with many doing Tai Chi, even spreading out across the pathways.

After breakfast at a local market, we learnt about buying just the right squid, saw black chickens, and very long beans.

Delicious lunch, then headed to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. A newly developed area, with excellent boardwalks, pods, and info panels. This view is across the Strait of Johor, over to Malaysia. We saw very large spiders, mudskippers, Kingfishers, Heron, crabs, a small monitor lizard, and thankfully, no crocodiles. A lot of fish, the water is so clear.

We also visited the Commonwealth War Graves at Krangi. 4,500 graves, and 24,000 listed with no known grave. So many died in WW2. The memorial was designed by Scottish architect Colin St Clair Oakes. The extra, a grave of a chaplain who died one week after the Japanese invaded Singapore in 1942. Immaculately kept, such tragic loss. "We will remember them."

A very happy evening spent at a wider family reunion. Lovely to meet many again, and make new friendships. A lot of photography chat, viewing beautiful orchids and flora in the garden, and looking at video footage of where we are heading soon. We feel very welcomed here.
