Reuben Tarte Had It Right!!!

After spending lots of days exploring San Juan Island, I'm saddened to think that so much of the beautiful beaches are PRIVATE, unlike the state of Oregon where we have lived our entire lives. We do not have a clue how fortunate we are in Oregon, thanks to Governor Tom McCall who had the foresight to keep our beautiful beaches open for everyone to enjoy.

Today we visited one of the few public beaches here on San Juan Island, set aside by Mr Reuben Tarte as a park....it is a breathtaking spot, and each time we visit, I find it more beautiful. There are vistas in every direction, and the rocks and cliffs are amazing! At least Reuben Tarte had it right when he gave this park to the county for everyone here to enjoy. Thanks Reuben!!!!

Reuben Tarte Park is on the Northeast side of San Juan Island and offers two small pebbly beaches separated by a rock bluff. The park looks out at Saturna, Flattop, Waldron, Sucia, and Orcas Islands
