rise and shine!

This is Jess having a big yawn this morning when we woke up on Criffel and had a lovely view over the estuary of the Nith.

We walked up here last night from New Abbey. It's a steep and boggy walk but always worth it for the views. The full moon was rising in front of us, but as we arrived at the summit, so did the mist, swirling out of nowhere and making for a very windy, chilly and rather damp top. So we retraced our steps for a few hundred metres and found a nice soft bivvy site out of the worst of the wind. I'd never bivvied with Jess before but she was fine. I put her on a long lead attached to my rucksack but she lay still all night, just next to my head.

This morning we went back up to the summit but it was still misty, so it was back down to New Abbey and home for an early lunch :-)
