The New Zealand Pigeon

The New Zealand pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae) known to the Maori as kererū.  They are lovely plump looking birds, which you can always hear flying above you due to the weight they are carrying and the flapping of their wings.  This beauty landed in our Kowhai, and started eating its leaves.  The tree will unfortuately be stipped of its leaves over the next few months, as the birds eat the leaves.
