THURCROSS
For those who read Inspector Banks novels, Thurcross was the inspiration for 'In a dry Season' by Peter Robinson. Before the valley was flooded there was a village called West End that sat just in front of where the Dam is now, when the waters become very low you can see the remains of the Flax Mill rise out of the lake, Dearest remembers the day they turned the taps on as her Uncle who was well connected got her and her Aunt down to the derelict Hamlet a couple of days beforehand and took them again a couple of weeks after to see the results.
There are a few alternative views HERE & A POTTED HISTORY HERE.
