Hiding its true colours!

It was the flash of brilliant red on the birdbath that caught my eye from the window but by the time I got out there with the camera it was on the fence with wings closed. The Red Admiral - so beautiful open, so plain closed. But it allowed me to get close enough to see the hairs on its underbody, its scaly legs and those magnificent antennae. Nature is wonderful.
