The Escape Route

One of the escape routes of Mary Queen of Scots from nearby Bolton Castle in 1568. She tried to escape 3 times.  She was recaptured after she dropped her shawl near here. This incident gave to the place the name by which it is still known- Queen's Gap, Leyburn Shawl
We are staying in Leyburn for the weekend to celebrate the 60th birthday of Val , a very special sister-in-law.
