Wednesday: Hosing Down

Today has been a satisfyingly full day. I had to be over in North Shore to join a group of 'women leaders' (don't laugh), for a day on a frigate, HMCS Regina, courtesy of the Canadian Navy. The theme was a day in the life of a naval ship and we were certainly shown that! In addition to being shown the workings of the ship inside out, we also had demonstrations of 'man overboard', what to do in the event of a fire, gun firing, as well as a helicopter flyby. And, to top it all, we spent the day sailing quite far up the coast, and back again. As you can see, it was a spectacular day for it - it was a lot of fun, very interesting, and the navy personnel couldn't have been more hospitable.

From there, I had to rush downtown (no mean feat at that time of day, given the horrendous traffic heading over the Lion's Gate Bridge) to meet up with K. as we had complimentary tickets to see Vancouver's soccer team, the Whitecaps, play New York City. Much to our surprise, we found when we got there, that we were actually in a corporate suite, with full hospitality. It made for a really comfortable experience. And, given that the Whitecaps won tonight after losing four games in a row, we are crediting ourselves with being their lucky charm.

You really have got to love Canadians! Where else would the announcer at a match say 'thank you' to a crowd, to have thousands of people roar 'You're welcome' back at him.

I have included an extra of the view passing under the Lion's Gate Bridge.
