Dean Clough
Another lovely sunny day, so Mrs MD and myself went in to Halifax to have a wander around Dean Clough Mills - difficult to do during the week - far too busy.
Dean Clough is a group of large factory buildings built in the 1840s–60s for Crossley's Carpets and became the largest carpet factory in the world.
After years of declining production it closed in 1983, when it was bought by a consortium led by Sir Ernest Hall and Jonathan Silver (Salts Mill) which developed the Grade II listed site for various commercial and cultural uses.
The mills now provide office space for some 150 companies as well as art galleries, restaurants and the Viaduct Theatre where the Northern Broadsides theatre company is based. It's an incredible place and well worth a visit.
My extra shows the part of the complex which was developed to become the Halifax Travelodge. The chimney (not used anymore) is the Corona Chimney - 297 ft tall and is dated 1857. It is also a Grade II listed building.
