Here Be Dragons!
Steady rain fell for most of yesterday and overnight - welcome as there had been weeks with none across much of south-east Queensland. Then came an infamous Maleny mist, falling like a silver duvet over the town. I waited for it to clear and so got a good bit of work done before heading into town for shopping and (yes, you've guessed it) coffee.
I had a walk around the park and along part of the river and though I got a few reasonable pics, they were not exciting.
As I sat on the cafe's terrace, I wondered if there might be a visit from this chap, a 'regular' there. Patience was rewarded. I did try to take an image with my foot next to him, to give an idea of scale but that was just a bit too close for his comfort. Typically these Eastern water dragons are around 70cm (a bit over 2ft) long. Though wild and usually shy, they tolerate people in some circumstances, as this visitor has. They need to be near and often in water, and this cafe is beside the Obi Obi River. I'm not sure if they pick up dropped scraps from under the cafe tables though their natural diet is carniverous.
