Howzat?

I took Helena to a church fete in the outskirts of Gloucester today, dropped her off, did some shopping and then came home. I returned at 4pm and took H.'s suggestion of going up the old tower of the church where one of the bellringers was showing anyone interested how they work and giving them a chance to have a pull on the rope. I took some pictures in the bell ringers lobby about thirty feet up the very narrow spiral stairwell, but was asked not to show them , so can't off them to you today.

On the way home Helena suggested going to a pub for a drink, and I took some back roads with the aim of climbing up high onto the hills and finding a pub with a view. We drove through the Stanleys, a series of small villages on the flatter ground below the Cotswold escarpment, and pulled up at a pub we have visited before when we saw a cricket match in progress on the adjacent village green.

Sadly the pub has closed and is for sale, a common feature of village life these days. But we wandered over to the sports centre, where there is a clubhouse, and were able to get a drink there. We went outside and sat near the boundary and sipped drinks whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the classic scene of a King's Stanley v. Tewkesbury cricket match.

I snapped a few frames at odd intervals and was pleased to catch this ball after the batsman nicked it and it carried on into the gloves of the wicketkeeper. Most of the fielding players seemed to shout 'Howzat? and the umpire's finger went up! We both agreed that we should come back for a longer visit to a cricket match here another time.
