Archiving the Family Story

Dear Diary,

This is one of the scrapbook pages, with others peeking out from behind.  You can lift the photograph and newspaper cutting to see mom's classmates and if you lift the black tab on top and pull up a packet of her drawings comes out, drawings she made while she was at Carmel High School in New York.

What has been great fun is trying to make the scrapbook less static and more interactive whenever possible.  It does, however, add to the thickness of the pages so I will have to do several volumes.

I must admit I am channeling my grandmother as I do this because she loved making scrapbooks.  She would cut out newspaper clippings and recipes primarily for her books but we would sit at the kitchen table and cut out pretty pictures, mainly of animals, to make my book.  I have a couple of hers, mine have been lost to time.

It is my hope that in the end, with all the pictures together and labeled, these albums will not be lost to time.  They will remain a slice of history for future generations to look at and enjoy along with the family chronicle.
