Public Baths
Or at least the Roman equivalent. This is the Jewry Wall in Leicester, the `rooms` in front are what would have been the public baths.
There would have been changing rooms and toilets..the equivalent of Andrex was a communal sponge on a stick. A warm room were they would have been annointed in oils then scraping it off before going into the `hot` room and finally the cold room. Plunge pools and underfloor heating where also a part of the baths.
Bathing was a social activity for all ages and sexes, a small fee was charged and it was a daily ritual.
Me....I prefer a shower
