Marbled White

Walking on the Lewes Downs with the spaniel this afternoon - after a couple of showers of rain the marbled whites seem to appear everywhere. There must have been hundreds of them feeding on knapweed and wild marjoram It is one of the few butterflies whose abundance is actually increasing, I've even started recording it in my woodland transect. This is the female with its beautifully patterned and coloured underwing.
