Thistle

What a miserable day to be in Newcastle - rain/drizzle most of the day. It did not deter our group from continuing with our reading of Beowulf though. Sadly that is the last session - they have been brilliant.

On the way home I found wayside flowers  and I was sure these were thistles, but of course I did not realise that a thistle is not just a thistle, there are lots of different kinds. I am going for Creeping Thistle, but I may be wrong. If right, then it is another of those flowers loved by butterflies, but a plant that is a pest for farmers as it is invasive and difficult to get rid of.

Extra - taken from the window of our building. It is a little unnerving to be in a building when all the buildings around are being demolished - we must be next, but I do hope they give us some warning! If you look at this, you can see our 'box' - now named as the ugliest building in Newcastle. The one next to us is the one that has gone and the one at the end is the one being demolished now.
