No Mandolin

This little statue on the harbour front has no explanation on it to tell the story it represents. (Sorry if you've read this before but I think it's worth repeating.)

Symi: WWII.

The Germans occupied this fair island and were not happy. Food supplies were low and things were not going well for anyone, the locals were starving and under orders to surrender all fish caught, on pain of death! In desperation the Greeks sent their children out to go and catch food for the family. They thought even the Nazis wouldn't execute little children.




They were wrong.




This statue is dedicated to all the young boys that tried to feed their families.
