Learning a lot
In the weeks since my hip replacement, a certain furry friend has learned a lot.
She's only been with me for sixteen months and she's less than two years old. I was her third home and she settled well, but she has been very much the lively wild kitten. She's loving and her infectious enthusiasm is pure magic.
I was nervous about having her home while I was pretty immobile, unable to bend, or twist or move, or stand unaided. I was worried she'd jump on me (as she so often does). I was nervous about the wound....etc....etc....
We had a couple of big traumas. When she sent several chilli pepper pots (with soil) flying, I shouted, then cried and got upset. She hid. But she must have learned.
After weeks of me covering my knees and lap with crutches and a grabber, like Morris Men's sticks, she's learned to sit quietly and purr.
When I fall deeply asleep (and probably snore), she gently taps me to check I'm ok.
She's used to ignore the Dreamie mouse, but along with the other lessons of growing up, she's learned that if she taps and spins him, she can get at the treats.
A big learning curve for both of us.
Big celebration today. My surgeon was pleased with me and has said I don't need to bother with my flight socks any more as I'm doing so much walking. And from next Tuesday, I am allowed to drive as it will be six weeks and legal.
