Compact cameras are great for macro shots

Once upon a time you would have needed either an SLR with extension tubes, or strong supplementary lenses, now all you have to do is dial the right mode, frame and shoot the subject, though of course you still have to find one and be there at the right time.
And choosing a suitable background helps too!
