Day10-Aida
This is the smaller of the two cruise ships docked in Kirkwall today. The other one was huge, disgorging 3,000 people and with another much smaller one in Stromness, the extra people milling around the two centres was almost one third of the total number of permanent residents of the towns. Far too many extra people.
We had to visit Kirkwall to pick up our car rental and the town looked like Edinburgh at Festival time. We escaped in a very red, new, sporty Renault. We liked to think we looked like a couple who had shed a few decades of age as we took to the roads of South Ronaldsay.
The car is even clever enough to park itself if only we could figure out how..... that's when the decades returned with a vengeance.
My extra is of the horse drawn carriage that takes the cruise visitors around town.
