It's not a cathedral!

The familiar crown spire of St Giles, the High Kirk of Edinburgh, often called a Cathedral but technically it was only a cathedral between 1633-38 and 1661- 89.

In its time the building has housed a fire station, a police station, a school, the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the city council, and even a prison for whores and harlots.

The lantern tower dates from about 1500 AD.
