Purple Emperor

A very quite Morning not much on the bird front to be seen and no good shots captured. So this afternoon we decided to head home. On the way home we decided to go and see what butterflies was around at Chambers wood. Knowing that Julie might like to go we arranged to pick her up so she could come out.
Thankfully it was a well worthwhile trip as we was rewarded with this lovely beauty. It is a Purple Emperor the 2nd largest resident butterfly in the UK. I did blip one last year but not in such good condition as this one and it didn't show its true colour like this one. This is an early record for them and was surprised when someone said they had seen some in the tree tops. We then heard that one had come down to feed on dog poo I know yuk but they are attracted to the salts in it. some  other shots can be seen HERE
