Evening primrose (two weeks earlier than usual)
beside the old railway track which is now part of a short heritage line catering to tourists. Went out with friends of the New Cut on a botanical walk to see what had self seeded and what had survived planting along the river banks. The New Cut is the River Avon by-pass of the Bristol Docks which was dug to allow the Docks to be enclosed by locks at either end and be a Floating Harbour over 200 years ago. The banks are now closely covered in trees and shrubs of all sorts and every so often in the winter we go out and collect litter - too many brambles to do anything now!
