Go the Kiwis!!

I apologise in advance to all of my Blip Buddies from the USA, but CCN and I are unashamedly barracking for our Kiwi buddies in the America Cup Yachting epic that is being played out at the moment.

To show our support we have brought out the red socks and believe me these are not just any old red socks - I'll explain more in a minute!!  I noticed Snowy's Blip from NZ yesterday and we wanted to let her know that we are right behind their brilliant team.  If you read Snowy's Blip you will have a very good summary of "Why the RED SOCKS" :-))

NOW, ABOUT THESE RED SOCKS.  Believe it or not, many years ago I used to play squash professionally and one of my biggest gripes was the way the socks used to find their way down into the shoes, those damn little pom poms kept falling off.  My strategy at this point was to design a sock and that was in the mid 1980's.  That makes these two pairs of red socks over 30 years old!!  They are the only ones I have left and I have kept them for sentimental reasons.

I am very proud of my sport socks and I had the support of the Life Be in it organisation in Australia and the backing of the RED ROBIN sock company who manufactured and distributed them.  I used to be very excited when my royalty cheques arrived every three months.  They were marketed Australia wide as the "Life Be in it - Sports Sock".  They came in glorious primary colours and we also manufactured a longer length sock for men.

The knitted band around the arch of the foot was the secret weapon.  The band was designed to keep the sock in place and the short knitted top also achieved the same result.  These days you can't find a sports sock without the knitted middle band.

So there you go my fellow blip buddies - a bit of trivia for you!!

Oh, at the last count I believe the Kiwis are leading four to one in a fight to get to 7 wins first.  I promise to wash our socks at the end of this battle :-)
