Friendly corner shop

Despite its name, they're a friendly lot in this French equivalent of the corner shop (fruit, veg, cheese, charcuterie and fine wines). I was in the neighbouring town of St Paul to post some letters (our post office is closed for two months for more refurbishment). Made a total fool of myself leaving: it's a one-person shop off the main drag so has a buzzer entry system. I managed to get in, but leaving I presumed there would be a button to release the door, and ended up plunging the place into darkness (ah, that'll be the light switch then).

Earlier, the morning started with some unforecast and utterly fabulous cool grey weather - so much of the morning was spent flinging open all the windows to get some cool air in the house. Then some planting around (and in) the pond.

Later TallGirl arrived home from the celebration day at school full of grumpiness as the magnificent torch that is normally handed on, in church, from the outgoing set of troisièmes to the new lot, was this year a tiny candle (think Wee Willy Winky) handed over in the study room. Though she was happy to avoid church, I think she appreciates the significance of it as a venue. Then some undercooked chicken and tomato couscous to celebrate. Not quite her idea of how to celebrate, I think, and further confirmation if it were needed that school lunches are rubbish.

Later still, much summer travel admin, including finally booking the 'kennels' for the rabbits (we are going to inspect it on Monday, but unless the guy is actually nibbling on raw rabbit when we arrive, they're going there - choice being somewhat limited).

And even later, off to the airport to collect Mr B. He proclaimed the house far too hot - he should have felt it yesterday.
