Traffic jam

W and I spent a large chunk of the day removing an expanse of heather which was only just clinging on to life in a bed in the front garden. It took much longer than it should have because we kept getting distracted by the action going on in the pond: dragonfly larvae were queuing up in their dozens to complete the transformation to adult. Almost every sword shaped leaf emerging from the pond, mainly Iris and water soldier, has a discarded larval shell clinging to it. Many have two or more. It's just completely awesome to watch the whole process from start to finish.
