Mass of Masts
All 44 yachts competing in the Shetland Race have now reached Lerwick following a frustrating day and a half of sailing due to the lack of wind.
First over the line at 11.15pm on Thursday evening was Winocean skippered by Carl Olav Wickmann. Her crossing took 38 hours and she is now flying the Blue Ribbon as first racing arrival. Last year's winner of the first leg, took half the time for the approx. 200 nautical miles from Bergen.
Forty-eight yachts had left Norway on Wednesday morning including six that are also participating in the 1000 Mile double-handed yacht race that started in the Netherlands last week.
Due to the weather conditions, which have now changed to a strong south westerly breeze, a number of yachts decided to motor to Lerwick.
Wind so strong now that the return leg due to start Saturday has been postponed until Sunday.
