Wound up in Wexford

Mayfly in June

Despite the fact that they are apparently quite common and widespread, I'd never seen one before.  Wikipedia tells me they hatch throughout the summer, not just in May, and that they have a very short life.  I spotted this one sitting on vegetation close to the pond - clinging on for dear life, one might say, as it was very windy - when the butterfly I had been stalking managed to be blown right away just before I had got the camera focussed on it.

It is cooler today, but the wind is unpleasantly gusty.  I've got the weekend off, thank goodness, as I have found the last couple of days quite taxing.  We, like many departments in the hospital (and in the NHS in the whole country) are understaffed on both the medical and nursing rotas, with many gaps.  I'm meant to be part time, but the only way to cover the department next week was to roster myself to work 5 days, though admittedly one of those 5 days is actually a trip to London for a conference about a case over which we are being sued - could be quite stressful in itself.

I hope the weather this weekend will allow some work in the garden, as we are being overrun by bracken again!
